Dear Me (c. 1992),

Hi, Me '92. It's Me, '07. It's been quite a few years since we've talked, and a lot has happened since then. Here are some things you should know:

First off, ditch the bangs. And perhaps the side ponytail. I'm sorry to tell you honey, but the Debbie Gibson look is just silly, and already 4 years out of date. And while we're on the topic of style, stop dressing like such a nun. You're the skinniest you'll ever be right now, so enjoy it!

Second off, hang in there. I know life sucks at this point, but in a few years, it's going to start getting so much better. You're going to learn that you have value, that you are not, in fact, invisible to boys, and that you're capable of handling a lot of stuff you'd never dream you could. I'm not going to tell you too much about what's going to happen, but trust me. In 15 years, you won't even believe how normal and (mostly) happy your life will be.

Although there are two things you could do that may make your future even brighter. First, stop being so scared! Nothing bad will happen to you if you throw yourself into life and stop thinking everyone else is smarter/cooler/just plain better than you are. And second, you might try cultivating a taste for healthy food right now. And when you get to college, try to remember that not all meals must include cheese fries.

Love, Me

Yes, the clothes I was most proud of then, I am most embarrassed by now.
