Less Talk, More Action

I had a good talk with my doula this morning, and as a result, I think I'm switching OBs and hospitals. I'm terrified that it's way too late to be doing this (since M was born at exactly 38 weeks and I'm 37w2d now, and since I don't actually know to whom I'll be switching my care), but I also realize that I need to stop complaining about my current doctors and start working on fixing the situation. That way, if I do end up with a repeat c-section, at least I can tell myself I tried everything I could do to avoid it.

Wish me luck, please. I'm really, really not good at doing things that I know will piss other people off. And making that call to my current OB tomorrow is going to be one of the harder things I've done lately.

*Update, Monday morning* Apparently, today's a holiday. The clinic that's most likely to be able to help me is closed, except for emergencies. Do I dare claim this as an emergency? I don't think I can do that...

I fired mine when pg with M, he would not listen to my concerns, took maybe 2 minutes to answer my questions and told me how my labor would go. Eh, wrong answer!

You do what you need to do for you. You PAY the doc, screw 'em if they get mad. There's lots more out there.

I really hope this works for you and you can find a more supportive, attentive ob/gyn. I'm so glad that you are willing to try it even at this point. Keep us updated.

Hi. I'm here from LFCA and saw that you are looking for a practice in the NC area. No idea where in the state you are, but I worked with UNC hospital's midwifery practice and was quite happy with them. I have no idea if they'd admit you as a patient this late or not, but the hospital doctors themselves are accustomed to working with midwives and, I suspect, better than average at allowing and promoting unmedicated/unsurgical births. Certainly the hospital itself (which is where all the midwifery births take place, also), is nice and comfortable. Two doctors I worked with and liked were Dr. Menard (who performed a successful external version on me at about 37 weeks) and Dr. Boggess (the female one, though I have no bad information about the male one -- just didn't work with him), with whom I consulted early on when I was trying decide between the OB practice and the midwifery practice.

Please feel free to email me if you want more information, and best wishes for a safe and pleasant birth.

Thanks. I spoke with UNC this morning, and it looks like they're willing to take me on. Now I'm just hoping I can get all of the administrative work done before the baby decides to come.
